Our History
Filled with the burning passion to help make a difference in the lives of young people, Founder & CEO Marquis Coates decided to develop an organization that would specifically focus on developing youth from a holistic approach. Recognizing the endless possibilities available to all young people academically and professionally, Tools For Success, Inc. was birthed.
In 2009 while riding through dilapidated neighborhoods in South West Philadelphia, he began to ponder on this question: "How can I help young men who have no direction, no guidance, and no mentorship and are wasting their lives away?" He then pondered, "How can I help them succeed beyond where they are?" It then became clear, these young men need TOOLS; they need basic life skills that will help them reach their life goals. More importantly, they need mentorship!
It was from this thought that he decided to name the organization Tools For Success, Inc., recognizing that no success could be reached without the proper tools to help one become successful . In 2012, Tools For Success, Inc. became a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. Since then, the organization has established awards, education and professional development programs dedicated to providing young men and women with "tools" to help them become successful.
